It is the third installment of a projected tetralogy and the final studio album to feature drummer Josh Eppard before his original departure. The album delves into Claudio Kilgannon's quest to protect the Keywork, shedding light on the demise of Coheed and his wife Cambria, as well as exploring the Monstar virus and Jesse's role in the saga. A graphic novel based on the album's story was released on the same day. Unlike its predecessors, this album narrates the story through the perspective of The Writer.
