Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Guitarist Kenny Burrell made his debut on Blue Note Records in 1956 and went on to release a series of outstanding albums for the label over the next 7 years. His pinnacle came with the release of "Midnight Blue" in 1963. This album delves deep into the blues, creating a captivating late-night atmosphere with a profoundly soulful lineup featuring tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, bassist Major Holley, Jr., drummer Bill English, and Ray Barretto on congas. Burrell's original compositions such as "Chitlins con Carne," "Midnight Blue," "Saturday Night Blues," and the mesmerizing solo guitar piece "Soul Lament" establish the mood for this timeless classic, complemented by the iconic Reid Miles cover design.
