A Holiday Carole

Vinyl LP pressing. Carole King's classic holiday album, "A Holiday Carole," was released in 2011. Produced by her daughter Louise Goffin, the album features 12 songs that artfully blend the sacred and the secular, offering an eclectic mix of well-chosen standards and newly-written material. Goffin co-wrote three original tracks on the album, including the Latin-flavored "Christmas in Paradise," the sublime Goffin/Marr composition "Christmas In The Air," and the deeply moving "New Year's Day," co-written with renowned songsmith Guy Chambers. King, reflecting on the collaboration, recalls that Louise's first question as a producer was, "What songs do you like?" After compiling a list of favorites, Goffin sought out more unusual tracks, such as William Bell & Booker T. Jones' Stax classic "Every Day Will Be Like A Holiday." Carole King puts her own indelible stamp on the music, infusing it with a special seasonal flair. The emotional highlight of the album for King is undoubtedly "Chanukah Prayer." Louise had the brilliant idea to incorporate the Chanukah prayer that has been passed down through generations in King's family. The result is a warm, jazz-inflected tune that brings together three generations on vocals: King, her daughter, and her grandson.
