1957 was a significant year for Mingus, during which he recorded several influential albums such as The Clown, Mingus Three, Tijuana Moods, East Coasting, and A Modern Jazz Symposium Of Music And Poetry. With the backing of the Charles Mingus Estate, we are thrilled to introduce the most extensive LP edition of A Modern Jazz Symposium Of Music And Poetry to date. This exceptional set showcases a stellar lineup featuring Jimmy Knepper on trombone, Shafi Hadi on tenor and alto sax, Bill Hardman and Clarence Shaw on trumpet, Dannie Richmond on drums, Horace Parlan and Bob Hammer on piano, with narration by the talented Mel Stewart. The ultimate edition includes all available outtakes and session-related material, meticulously remastered from the original tape transfers and lacquers cut by Kevin Gray. Presented in a gatefold sleeve with a reverse-board finish and printed by Pallas, this album is a gem that may sometimes be overlooked in Mingus' extensive discography. However, it originates from one of his most innovative periods and remains a remarkable conceptual recording today.
