Bad is the seventh studio album by Michael Jackson, originally released on August 31, 1987. It followed nearly five years after Jackson's previous solo studio album, Thriller (1982). The album sustained Jackson's commercial success in the late 1980s, earning six Grammy Award nominations and winning two. Bad spawned a record five Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles. VH1 ranked Bad at #43 in the 100 Greatest Albums of All Time of the MTV Generation in 2009, while Rolling Stone magazine placed it at number 202 in their 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. With an estimated 35 million copies sold worldwide, Bad is recognized as one of the best-selling albums of all time.
