On their sophomore album "Bambi," St. Paul, Minnesota-bred band Hippo Campus presents a collection of introspective songs that delve into darker themes while maintaining a delicate beauty that elevates even the most painful moments. Recorded in part at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio in Chicago, "Bambi" sees Hippo Campus reuniting with producer BJ Burton (known for his work with Bon Iver, Low, and Francis and the Lights), who previously collaborated with the band on their 2017 debut album "Landmark." Expanding their sonic palette, Hippo Campus incorporates a greater use of drum machines and synths in crafting the inventive arrangements on "Bambi." The album showcases a blend of introspection and musical exploration, with tracks like "Anxious" delivering urgent rhythms and raw vulnerability, while the title track features ethereal vocals, delicate guitar work, and uplifting lyrics.
