When jazz bass virtuoso Paul Chambers recorded "Bass On Top" in 1957, his third and final album as a leader for Blue Note, he was only 22 years old but already well-established as one of the top bassists in jazz. This album features Hank Jones on piano, Kenny Burrell on guitar, and Art Taylor on drums. Highlights include the chamber-jazz interpretation of Jerome Kern's "Yesterdays" and a lightly swinging version of "Dear Old Stockholm," a tune often associated with Miles Davis, who was Chambers' employer at the time.

Recorded on July 14, 1957, this album was originally released by Blue Note Records in 1957. Mastered from the original analog tapes, this edition captures the essence of the music as it was intended. Please note that there are several instances of mic overload on Art Taylor’s “crash” cymbal, which is present on the original stereo master tape.
