Director Luca Guadagnino aimed to connect the film's music to the character Elio, a young pianist who uses music to bond with Oliver. The soundtrack includes three original songs by Sufjan Stevens, including 'Visions of Gideon,' 'Mystery of Love,' and a new version of 'Futile Devices' with piano. Stevens crafted these songs by drawing inspiration from the script, the book, and discussions with the director about the characters. Notably, this soundtrack marks Sufjan Stevens' first foray into scoring a feature film.
