Limited Release; Black and Clear Vinyl Carbon Glacier was originally released on CD in 2004 and later on vinyl in 2007. It has been out of print since 2010. Widely regarded as a groundbreaking album in the Laura Veirs canon, "Carbon Glacier" evokes the Pacific Northwest through climactic imagery, as noted by Uncut. Pitchfork describes the album as "cold, beautiful, and engaging," translating the vastness of nature into the modern city-sprawl, with one voice singing in solitude. The Guardian praises the album as oddly beautiful, reflecting on mortality, Moby Dick, and the great sheet of blackened ice after which it is named. Produced by drummer Tucker Martine (Modest Mouse), "Carbon Glacier" features ghostly glockenspiels, organs, random percussion, and trombone, with Veirs' hypnotic voice delivering pitch-perfect beauty and tightrope uneasiness. All Music Guide compares her style to Nina Nastasia and Jolie Holland.
