Released 2023, US

In 2020, Rudy de Anda relocated from California for the first time, heading East with a mostly finished record in tow. Upon reaching Chicago, he completed his new LP, "Closet Botanist," set to be released on April 28, 2023, by Colemine/Karma Chief Records. The album was crafted at the Electric Deluxe recording studio in Austin, Texas, owned by Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas), who also contributed to producing and engineering the record. Rudy shared that the change in recording location from California influenced the album's vibe, allowing him and the band to be fully immersed in the creative process. While Rudy's earlier releases were reminiscent of California's sunny ambiance, "Closet Botanist" retains elements of his beachy, psych-rock roots while showcasing a more mature sound. The album delves into personal themes of lost love and friendships, reflecting a more visceral and introspective approach to songwriting. Collaborating with former bandmates from California and new acquaintances in Chicago, Rudy weaved together a collection of songs that are both heartfelt and reflective. The recording process involved a blend of familiar faces and fresh talent, resulting in a cohesive sound that resonates with classic rock influences from bands like The Velvet Underground and The Kinks. With a nod to 60s psych-rock, Rudy's dedication to those who prioritize others over themselves shines through in "Closet Botanist," symbolizing growth and resilience even in colder climates.
