Cold Wave #1

Soul Jazz Records presents 'Cold Wave', a new collection featuring current electronic artists influenced by the early European cold wave artists of the late 70s and early 80s. This release marks the first installment of Soul Jazz Records' Cold Wave series, with a second volume set to follow shortly after. The pioneering artists of the past created unique electronic soundscapes, embracing a DIY ethos by utilizing lo-fi technology, primitive drum machines, and home-recording techniques. Today, many of the artists featured in this collection continue to push boundaries by self-releasing their music, managing labels, producing fanzines, and collaborating within musical communities. In addition to drawing inspiration from electronic, no wave, and post-punk pioneers like Suicide, Patrick Cowley, and Public Image, the new generation of artists showcased in 'Cold Wave' exhibit a diverse range of influences, from Underground Resistance to Purcell, Scientist, and New Beat. Featuring artists primarily based in Europe such as Krikor, Dissemblance, VQOA, De Ambassade, Moisture, Kreidler, Celine Gillian, and Carcass Identity, with the exception of FIT Siegel from Detroit, bridging the electronic scenes between Europe and the Motor City. Each band on this compilation offers a contemporary take on the 80s cold wave movement, capturing the essence of the era while infusing their own modern twist.
