Gifted session musician and arranger Johnny Almond, known for his work with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Zoot Money, Fleetwood Mac, and Martha Velez, ventured into forming his own Music Machine band in 1969. Hollywood Blues, following his debut album Patent Pending, showcases Almond's talent alongside a stellar cast of American jazz players. The lineup includes Earl Palmer on drums, Ray Neapolitan on bass, Joe Pass on guitar, Charles Kynard on organ, Curtis Amy on flute, and VI Redd on saxophone. The album offers a diverse listening experience, ranging from hard bop tracks like 'It's The Water' to soulful grooves such as 'Funkyville U.S.A.' and fusion delights like 'Agadir Sunset.' Tracks like 'Slippin Easy,' 'Kwei Ying Fu,' and 'Perdido' further highlight the musical prowess of this ensemble.
