I Flip My Life Every Time I Fly

Within Melbourne's vibrant cinematic-soul scene, alongside breakout acts like Surprise Chef and Karate Boogaloo, lies The Pro-Teens. Led by the talented drummer and percussionist Hudson Whitlock, who is also part of the aforementioned bands, this studio project features a rotating group of anonymous, esteemed instrumentalists from Melbourne. They perform under quirky aliases such as "'Dead Honest' Dean Amazing" and "Libby Clique-Baite". Symbolically guided by keyboardist "Snooch Dodd", their latest album 'I Flip My Life Every Time I Fly' is a unique blend of soul/funk roots and boom-bap hip hop principles. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant comic book styles of MF DOOM and Kool Keith, as well as the darker tones of Gravediggaz and The Wu-Tang Clan, The Pro-Teens also pay homage to their musical influences like Galt MacDermot, Richard Evans, and Marc Moulin. Their music takes listeners on a whimsical journey, combining cinematic soul, funk breaks, rich instrumental layers, and film score-like atmospheres. Following the analog recording approach of the College Of Knowledge label, The Pro-Teens self-record and produce their music. Tracks are laid down live to tape in cozy attic studios and shared recording spaces.
