Metta, Benevolence BBC 6Music : Live On The Invitation Of Mary Anne Hobbs

In late October 2019, following a successful UK tour culminating in a sold-out concert at the iconic Roundhouse in London, SUNN O))) entered studio 4 of the BBC Maida Vale by invitation to record a live session for Mary Anne Hobbs. The session was broadcast on Samhain through her esteemed radio show on BBC6. Stepping into the legendary John Peel studios was akin to entering a temple of music and experimentation, a sanctuary of free-flowing ideas and sonic exploration. At this point, the band was wrapping up an extensive touring year centered around the Life Metal and Pyroclast albums. SUNN O))) had meticulously refined their compositions, delving deep into the core concepts of the Life Metal album both conceptually and emotionally. These ideas were then transmuted into expansive, luminous, and richly saturated arrangements. The selected pieces for this recording, "Troubled Air" and "Pyroclasts," epitomized this evolution. "Troubled Air" encapsulated the band's ethos and essence in myriad ways, while "Pyroclasts" had metamorphosed into a comprehensive manifestation of SUNN O)))'s sonic radiation.
