His pinnacle came with the release of "Midnight Blue" in 1963. This album delves deep into the blues, creating a captivating late-night atmosphere with a profoundly soulful lineup featuring tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, bassist Major Holley, Jr., drummer Bill English, and Ray Barretto on congas.
