Miles & Monk at Newport is a combined album featuring separate live appearances by Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk at the Newport Jazz Festival. The first side of the LP showcases high tempo performances of bebop tunes and other staples from Davis' live repertoire in 1958, coinciding with his Milestones album. This recording, along with Jazz at the Plaza, stands as one of the few legitimate live recordings of the Kind of Blue sextet. The second side features Monk's combo from a 1963 Newport appearance, including a unique performance by clarinetist Pee Wee Russell. The Miles set was recorded in mono, while the Monk set was recorded in stereo, resulting in a fold-down of the Monk set on the mono LP.
