This album marked a significant success for Prince, reaching the Top 5 of the album charts in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and various other countries. "Musicology" was a pivotal release as it was Prince's first album in five years to be launched through a major label. Notably, it was partially recorded in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, making it his first record to be produced outside Minneapolis in many years.
