In 1986, Arthur Russell was diagnosed with HIV. That same year, he released his career-defining masterpiece, "World of Echo," which stands as the first and only solo album issued during his lifetime. Arthur had discovered a new voice and direction, presenting a set of transformative material unlike anything he or anyone else had previously released. His illness unfortunately cut short the artistic growth and sense of exploration encapsulated in "World of Echo." Within six short years, he passed away. Despite his health struggles, Arthur's final years were marked by a renewed commitment to creativity, with continuous live performances and recording work. "Picture of Bunny Rabbit" showcases nine previously unreleased performances from this era, compiled from completed masters sourced from two unique test pressings. Additionally, four tracks were unearthed from his tape archive. The majority of the material was recorded with engineer Eric Liljestrand at Battery Sound Studios in NYC and at Arthur's apartment studio in the East Village.
