The Ohio Players rose to musical prominence in the 1970s as trailblazers of street funk and underground R&B. Signing with Mercury Records in 1974, they achieved three consecutive platinum albums with Skin Tight, Fire, and Honey. Considered their commercial breakthrough, Skin Tight features a richer production and more prominent horns, showcased in the hit title track and single "Jive Turkey."
