Ted K (Original Motion Picture Score)

This February, the story of the infamous Unabomber Ted Kaczynski will receive its theatrical debut in a new film directed by Tony Stone. Kaczynski is notorious for tragically murdering three people and wounding an additional 23 via bombs sent in the mail. He is also known for his writings on the evils of technology, composed during his primitive residency in the woods of Montana. Stone's decision to have the renowned electronic artist Blanck Mass score the film adds an ironic and tense layer to the controversial and complex subject matter. In 2020, Blanck Mass created his first movie score for the soundtrack of Nick Rowland's acclaimed cinematic debut, 'Calm with Horses.' This venture into new realms of melodic composition and textural exploration garnered Blanck Mass many new fans, with BBC's film critic Mark Kermode hailing the work as the soundtrack of the year. In 2021, Blanck Mass received the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Best Original Film Score, solidifying his position at the forefront of the latest wave of experimental soundscape creators. Recording during lockdown at his studio in Edinburgh, Scotland, Ben Power of Blanck Mass found himself in the ideal setting to craft a musical piece that captures the isolation central to Kaczynski's story.
