The South Side Movement's self-titled debut album is a sought-after '70s soul-funk classic that has become a favorite among crate-diggers and a source of inspiration for modern-day hip-hop artists. Originally the backing band for soul duo Simtec & Wylie, the Chicago-based group found success with the R&B hit "I' Been Watchin' You," penned by Chicago label owner and producer James Vanleer. Despite not achieving widespread commercial success, The South Side Movement's music has left a lasting impact, being sampled by artists such as The Beastie Boys, Beck, Erykah Badu, and Jadakiss. The album also features a standout cover of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," showcasing the band's unique take on Windy City soul-funk.
