Mayer Hawthorne (Aquarius) and Jake One (Taurus) are descendants of the one-word moniker family of funk, following in the footsteps of groups such as Chic, Shalamar, Plush, and Zapp. The Tuxedo collaboration originated from an exchange of mixtapes in 2006, resulting in three tracks that surfaced online nearly two years ago. Amidst their individual projects, these tracks evolved into a full album under the name Tuxedo. The album was mixed by disco legend John Morales at his home studio in South Plainfield, New Jersey. "I flew out there," Mayer recalls. "His wife even made me spaghetti." The duo is thrilled to unveil their upcoming album on Stones Throw Records, marking Mayer's return to the label since his debut release of 'Strange Arrangement' in 2009.
