Various Positions

Various Positions is the seventh studio album by Leonard Cohen, released in December 1984 (and February 1985). It marked a shift towards a more modern sound, incorporating the use of synthesizers, particularly on the opening track. This album also featured a significant contribution from Jennifer Warnes, who provided harmonies and backing vocals on all tracks, and is credited equally to Cohen as a vocalist. Recorded at Quadrasonic Sound in New York during the summer of 1983, the album features musicians from a group called Slow Train backing Cohen. Notably, the album includes two songs that would later become live standards for Cohen: "Dance Me to the End of Love" and "Hallelujah".
