Import only vinyl pressing. Erasure's first album was originally intended to feature various singers, inspired by keyboardist-songwriter Vince Clarke's previous project, the Assembly. However, Andy Bell, a previously unknown singer, proved to be such a perfect match for Clarke that he quickly became a full partner in the band. Unlike Clarke's earlier bands, Depeche Mode and Yaz, where he was the sole songwriter, Bell co-wrote most of Wonderland. This album served as the blueprint for several future Erasure releases, blending the Hi-NRG dance of "Push Me Shove Me" with the quiet lyricism of "Oh L'Amour." Bell's emotionally charged lyrics, particularly evident in tracks like "Say What," maintain a sense of turmoil without veering into melodrama. Notable tracks include the instant classics "Who Needs Love Like That" and "My Heart... So Blue." Released by Mute.
