180 gram vinyl LP pressing. The title track of 1976's "Zombie" by Fela Kuti and Afrika 70 is a powerful critique of the mindset of men in uniform, set against an urgent, quick-march accompaniment. Fela's commanding vocals lead the way, mocking the orders given to soldiers to "Go and kill! Go and die! Go and quench!" The backup singers respond with the haunting chant of "Zombie!" The album holds historical significance as just a few months after its release, Fela and his community faced a brutal attack by around 1,000 armed soldiers. The assault resulted in Fela sustaining severe injuries, including a fractured skull, while his mother was thrown out of a window. The soldiers went on to set fire to the compound, destroying valuable equipment, master tapes, and personal belongings. The attack aimed to silence Fela's voice and his message, highlighting the oppressive forces he was up against.
